Full Time Graphics Professor
JOB SUMMARY:
Require a full time faculty member to work with the team in curriculum development and to teach in the Art & Script Fundamentals, Graphic Design Production - Integrated Media Arts (cinematic animation), Creative and Digital programs. A teacher who can translate original art work to both digital and traditional drawing portfolio ready projects, an appreciation of traditional fine art; proven traditional art abilities and specific digital drawing tablet industry experience is required.
Qualified candidates should have a post secondary diploma in the arts with an understanding of graphic design applications. A strong portfolio and industry experience is important. Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate (by providing a portfolio) an expert proficiency in a wide range of traditional and digital illustration techniques. Expertise in wider aspects of graphic arts, animation and sequential art is preferred. Develop a student’s awareness of combining text and art to tell a story, send a message or communicate through visual representation. Pre-production, production and post-production techniques must be evident in the portfolio through process examples culminating in final product inclusions. College-level teaching experience and/or substantial art direction experience is essential.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be instrumental in the design, development and delivery of community college level curricula which will include traditional and digital graphic design including illustration as well as storyboard and varying sequential art applications.
Play an essential role in developing and teaching in a new and popular curricular sequence in Mohawk College Graphic Design Production courses and programs offered at the post-secondary level. Work in an integrated and consultative manner with the college academic and administration team. Classes taught in the programs may include, but not limited to: digital and traditional illustration as well as traditional and digital creative graphic design. Collaborate with peer departments associated with Graphic Design Production - Digital, Creative, and Integrated Media Arts as well as Art and Script Fundamentals. Play a leadership role in the development of the program and curriculum with co op learning opportunities. Participate in service activities, outreach to community partners, student recruitment and advise and mentor students in program related learning.
The successful applicant will be expected to develop, deliver and revise academic curriculum in collaboration with other college and university faculty. The ability to work as part of a team and to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills is essential. The successful applicant will have the ability to relate theoretical knowledge to practical applications to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles and ages.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicable post secondary diploma in graphic arts preferred; an arts diploma or degree essential. Have a demonstrated record of experience in traditional and computer studio art with juried works important evidence.
Related college level teaching experience with a demonstrated interest in curricular development and academic leadership.
Faculty members hired at Mohawk College must be prepared to teach with a learner-centered approach and to assist in the development and application of alternative delivery methods. He/she may be assigned to teach at any College Campus. Faculty may be scheduled to teach from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
