Institution: Founded in 1931, Ringling College of Art and Design is a private professional college fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and CIDA, the Council for Interior Design Accreditation. Ringling College of Art and Design’s primary mission is to prepare students to be discerning visual thinkers and ethical practitioners in their chosen area of art and design and to provide an intensive professional education in the visual arts. It is authorized to award the BFA in thirteen visual arts disciplines and the BA in the Business of Art and Design, a new program that bridges the business world with art and design education. The Department: The Computer Animation Department is a nationally respected program, which houses two separate majors: Computer Animation and Game Art + Design (GD). A highly collaborative teaching environment merges the aesthetic of feature film with today’s most current interactive gaming hardware and software. Game students design, create, and analyze the visual components of games, rather than game design.
The Position: The Computer Animation Department is seeking level designer/environment artists with Autodesk Maya and Unreal Development Kit (UDK) experience to join a dedicated faculty teaching Game Art and Design. Although faculty in the Department teach towards both degrees, the primary responsibility of these new positions will focus on teaching students to create the visual assets that make computer games.
Responsibilities: Among the duties and responsibilities, these positions require expertise in modeling, texturing, rigging, animating, and lighting in a 3D application as well as in UDK. The successful candidates will be responsible for teaching three courses per semester using high-end resources to include teaching introductory through advanced courses in creating level and environment art assets, 3D computer animation, and basic game engine integration of those assets. Active participation with faculty, department, and college service is required.
Required qualifications for the positions will include evidence of:
• A Masters degree, OR a 4 year professional degree in art or design and equivalent professional experience, training and expertise with an appropriate record of achievement in the field.
• Ability to teach introductory through advanced classes in creating level and environment art assets, 3D modeling & animation.
• Experience with Autodesk Maya
• Experience with Unreal Development Kit (UDK)
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
• Dedication to providing quality instruction.
Preferred qualifications for the position include evidence of:
• A terminal degree in an appropriate discipline
• Experience with scripting
• Experience with level design
• Experience with Zbrush
• Experience with cinematics, story and character development, storyboarding, film theory
• Ability to create visually-sophisticated environments in UDK
• Capacity to increase the national reputation of the program.
Facilities: Ringling College’s Computer Animation Department has a facility designed to replicate a professional studio environment, and boasts the highest-end, state-of-the-art computer laboratories and a 400-node render farm. Full time Institutional Technology staff support the Department.
